So confused on whether or not an HSA is the best option if planning on getting pregnant

Hi everyone,

I’ve been trying to find some clarity on this and I’m hoping you all can help.

Some relevant background: early 30s enrolled in HSA and working to get pregnant. We currently deduct a few hundred a month and the annual deductible is around $3k with a max out of pocket of $7k. My employer also contributes a little over $1k a year.

My problem: I don’t know what plan is better for an impending pregnancy? The HSA or other plan with higher monthly premiums but lower maximum? I really don’t understand how care is covered under an HSA and I’m fortunate that I haven’t had to use it much. If I see a physician in network, do I get a discounted rate like i would with a standard HMO? Or am I laying full price for every facet of care until I hit that maximum? I have no issues with putting more away per month but I want to do what makes the most sense financially.

I guess I’m really confused on how you are billed if you have an HSA versus a standard HMO. I’d hate to go to the hospital and have an automatic $7k bill as that’s my max out of pocket
