Everything Bronze on the 2022 Toyota Highlander Bronze Edition

Joey CapparellaCar and Driver

The 2022 Toyota Highlander’s new Bronze Edition package is one of those special editions that makes us wonder . . . why? But we’ll accept any attempt to add some visual interest to an otherwise boring family crossover, and the Bronze Highlander does include a fair number of tweaks inside and out that live up to the name at the very least. It’s available only for the XLE hybrid model and starts at $45,295 with front-wheel drive and $46,895 with all-wheel drive. That’s a $2025 premium over the non-Bronze XLE hybrid, but if you’ve got some kind of bronze fetish maybe you’re willing to pony up the extra cash.

The Wheels

Not only are the Highlander Bronze Edition’s 18-inch wheels finished in this matte-bronze look, they also feature a different design than the standard XLE hybrid model.

The Seats

We’re not sure exactly what Toyota means when it describes the Bronze Edition’s special seats as “midcentury modern,” but the upholstery does look a bit cooler than what you’ll find in the standard XLE model. They are a combination of fake leather and cloth.

In addition to those stripes, Bronze Edition interior features include rain-sensing wipers, a digital rearview mirror, and a memory driver’s seat with 10-way power.

The Stitching

Contrasting bronze stitching is found throughout the cabin, adorning the dashboard, center console, and seats.

The Floor Mats

Unless you opt for the extra-cost all-weather floor mats, the Bronze Edition comes with floor mats that are embroidered with a Highlander logo in . . . well, you can probably guess what color.

The Doorsills

Illuminated doorsills typically cost $299 extra as an accessory for the Highlander, but the Bronze Edition includes these bronze-colored sills for no additional cost.

Not the Car Itself

Toyota doesn’t actually offer a bronze exterior hue, but the Bronze Edition is available with a choice of either Cement (pictured), Wind Chill Pearl, or Midnight Black Metallic paint colors.

This Part Isn’t Bronze

But there is a power liftgate on the Bronze Edition, so there’s that.
