ICA opens appointments for flood anniversary forums

20 February 2023

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has announced in-person panels for Northern NSW communities as it marks the anniversary of last year’s historic flooding.

The meetings will be hosted across four locations devastated by the floods in February and March that were recorded as Australia’s costliest natural disaster.

ICA CEO Andrew Hall says the forums allow policyholders to have in-person discussions about their insurance plans and claims with their insurers.

“This will be the industry’s fourth visit to some locations and each time the ICA and insurers return for these in-person meetings we help people navigate the claim process and their recovery,” Mr Hall said.

He says more than 78% of the 239,000 claims relating to the floods have been resolved, with the estimated insurance cost at $5.7 billion.

Customers meetings will be held at these locations between midday and 8pm on the following dates:

Monday March 6, at Lismore Workers Sports Club, 202 Oliver Ave, Goonellabah
Tuesday March 7, at Mullumbimby Golf Club 600 Coolamon Scenic Drv, Mullumbimby
Wednesday March 8, at Casino RSM 162 Canterbury St, Casino
Thursday March 9, at Ballina RSL 1 Grant St, Ballina

The ICA is holding similar consultation panels for South-East Queensland communities this week.
