Retroactive cancellation potential mess

I was out of work and covered by my wife's insurance (United Healthcare).

I started a new job in mid January. Took some time to consider different insurance options. Signed up for the insurance from my new company on Feb 8th (Aetna).

Turns out the new insurance started on Feb 1st retroactively. And what's more, my wife's insurance also tells us, that they will cancel my coverage on Feb 1st retroactively, and they cannot cancel it on, say March 1st, because the dates must match… They're still processing the cancelation.

The problem is that I had a couple of medical procedures done in the beginning of February before we decided on what option to choose. It seems like old insurance was already billed and they seem to have paid. Moreover, I got a few medications through my old insurance as well.

What's going to happen now?

Will my previous insurance bill me the total amount they paid and then I'll have to ask new insurance to cover?

Or will they figure it out themselves between two insurance companies and the hospital, haha?

Has anyone been in a similar spot?

I have no idea, it has never happened to me before. Previously, when I was transitioning, old insurance would be active until the end of the month or some billing period, I've never been told that it could be cancelled retroactively…
