Suncorp's 'Heritage Lanes' tops local workplace list

Report proposes 'self-funding' insurance model for export industries

Suncorp’s Brisbane-based headquarters “Heritage Lanes” has been named the city’s top office by global workplace experience analyst Leesman.

The office, which officially opened last year, was named the city’s first “post-covid workplace”, with praise given for its evolving and connected environment. It achieved a Leesman+ certification and the highest Leesman’s independent score among all other eligible workplaces in Brisbane.

Suncorp EGM Real Estate, Procurement and Operations Colin Harris says the goal of the workplace is to allow workers to prioritise a sense of community as hybrid office and work-from-home arrangements become the norm, with over 65% of employees working under the model.

“A significant portion of our building is dedicated towards formal and informal meeting spaces, wellbeing spaces and event spaces, including our rooftop terrace,” Mr Harris said.

“With our new Leesman+ certification, it’s clear we’re on the right track with Heritage Lanes a leading example of what the modern workplace experience should feel like.”

Suncorp EGM People and Culture Strategy Matt Leslie says the evolving role of the office has seen it become a place for “creating meaningful employee experiences”.

“We’ve always backed a flexible approach to work and encourage our employees to make use of both home and office workspaces. The question shouldn’t be which is better – it’s recognising we need to use both and embracing the advantages each provides,” Mr Leslie said.

The findings from the Leesman assessment found that the overwhelming majority of workers support collaborative efforts within the office, with 87% of Heritage Lane employees saying that the office contributed to “a sense of community at work”.

Suncorp has also backed “Big Days In” employee initiatives involving games, food trucks and other programs to help bring a “festival feel” towards the workplace and encourage community participation.

“This was incredibly successful among our people, and it was great to see our welcoming Suncorp culture at play, while offering people the chance to informally catch-up with their colleagues,” Mr Leslie said.

“We want our people to feel connected again and bring new life back into Brisbane’s CBD.”
