NSW building panel explores options for Mascot Tower owners

NSW Building Commissioner David Chandler will lead an expert panel to explore all options including remediation for owners of Mascot Towers, which remains too dangerous to be occupied because of structural problems.

Mr Chandler is expected to report back to the NSW Government in two months’ time.

“I have met with the Mascot Towers owners twice in the last two weeks and I believe that, through the establishment of this expert panel, we now have a clear pathway forward for the residents,” Minister for Fair Trading Victor Dominello said in a statement over the weekend.

“I have asked [Mr Chandler] to set up a team of industry experts to not only examine the feasibility of remediating the building but also report back on all other options available to the resolve this matter.

He says the report is a “crucial first step” in finding a solution for the owners of Mascot Towers.

“Without this, owners would remain in limbo with no clear path forward on a course of action,” Mr Dominello said.

“His panel will report back on the viability and potential cost of remediation and provide the associated legal and commercial advice.”

Mascot Towers residents were forced to evacuate in 2019 after major cracks were found in the 10-storey block, including in the basement area.
