I missed open enrollment for health insurance with my employer. Am I out of luck?
Forgive any ignorance on this topic, but I’ll do my best. I’m in Florida, if that’s relevant.
I’ve been remaining on my dad’s insurance as long as I could because they had a better plan than my current employer. I know 25 is usually when the cut happens, but last year my dad told me that his insurance had kept me on and that he had heard there’s a stipulation where I can stay on until 30 in Florida.
Well, today I have some type of infection and go to the doctor’s office and they tell me that my dad’s insurance has updated without me being covered. I had to pay out of pocket which sucked, but I figured I can ask my employer about their health insurance options. However, googling this topic showed me there is some type of window for open enrollment. Does this mean that I have to wait until enrolling in November and next January to actually have health insurance, and just pray I have no more health emergencies this year?
