Scor recruits Swiss Re’s Thierry Leger for CEO role

30 January 2023

Swiss Re Group Chief Underwriting Officer Thierry Leger has stepped down to take up the role of CEO with French-based reinsurer Scor.

Mr Leger has been with Swiss Re for 25 years and has been Chief Underwriting Officer since 2020. Group CEO Christian Mumenthaler will take over the role on an interim basis.

Scor says Mr Leger will become CEO effective May 1, taking over from Laurent Rousseau who is “leaving the company to pursue other professional opportunities” after 18 months in the position.

Chairman Denis Kessler says Mr Leger is an experienced and skilled reinsurer who is an expert in the life and non-life areas.

“Having held key positions at a major global reinsurance company, he has all the skills required to lead the Scor group and forge a new strategic vision for the company, while pursuing an underwriting policy based entirely on technical profitability,” Mr Kessler said.

“By giving high priority to capital allocation and returns, and by practicing very strict risk management, Thierry Leger will restore the group’s profitability and maintain its high level of solvency, to the benefit of all stakeholders: clients, shareholders and employees.”

Mr Leger says he will focus his energy on giving fresh impetus to Scor.

“The reinsurance sector offers many opportunities, both on the liability side with the increased demand for cover and the improvement of terms and conditions, and on the asset side with the rise in interest rates,” Mr Leger said. “I am convinced that Scor is well placed to take full advantage of this favourable environment.”
