Anthem demanding repayment from other insurance??? Advice needed please!!!

Hi all.

I am new to having insurance, I (23F) work for a university and have Anthem BlueCross BlueShield. This is really the first time I’ve had like my own insurance plan, if that makes sense. So it seems unfair or confusing with that’s happening and I am seeking advice. I am also on my mom’s insurance which is Molina Healthcare. I am not sure which is my primary.

Anyway, I have a therapist and she sent me a notice from Anthem which says:

“Dear Provider,

In review of our records, we have found that an overpayment exists. Our files indicate that a refund is due for the reason below: Coordination of Benefits with your other carrier on this claim was either not applied or was applied incorrectly resulting in an overpayment.”

They are seeking reimbursement for $338.45 for five sessions. I understand that they’re wanting to charge my mom’s insurance over mine, HOWEVER – I don’t think it’s fair to me pay it because since it was their error. The counseling place I go to didn’t realize this was happening & I didn’t realize this was happening. Then suddenly they try to charge me this much money?

I am also frustrated because I paid my yearly deductible – its like, how can you take my money to provide coverage… to then only take my money to not provide?!?

I don’t know.. is there anything I can do? Am I in the wrong? I just really struggle with understanding insurance and I don’t have any other guidance.

Update: To add, my counseling place does not accept Molina meaning it won’t be covered, resulting in me paying out of pocket.
