Lawson J. Schuford, Jr.

Mr. Lawson J. Schuford, Jr. entered eternal rest on Friday, March 11, 2022. He was born on November 17, 1932, in Waskom, Texas to Geneva R. Lee and Lawson J. Schuford, Sr. both of whom proceeded him in death. Also proceeding him was his wife of fifty-nine (59) years, Lillian H. Schuford, and his sister Lizzie Lee.

Lawson attended and received his education from the primary and secondary schools of Caddo Parish, from which he graduated.

Lawson graduated from the United States Air Force Senior N.C.O. Academy and received his Bachelor of Science Degree. Lawson completed thirty three (33) years in the United States Air Force, having served two (2) tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Lawson retired in December 1982, with the rank of Senior Chief Master Sergeant.

Lawson worked for the New York Life Insurance Company as a Life Insurance Underwriter for thirty-seven (37) years, until he retired. He was on the Executive Council, Million Dollar Round Table, and the National Associations of Life Underwriters. Lawson was an appointed official for the Caddo Metropolitan Planning Commission (and served as Past Chairman).

In his leisure time, he served with the Knights of Columbus, Board of Directors for HAP House, Board of Directors for Northwest Louisiana Council of Governments, Juvenile Resource Facility Committee Member, Louisiana High School Athletic Association, Young Men Christian Association, President of the Lakeside Acres Neighborhood Association, served on the Board of Directors for the Allendale, Ledbetter Heights, and Lakeside Acres Partnership, and was a supporter of the NW Louisiana Sickle Cell Softball Tournament.

Lawson J. Schuford, Jr. leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted daughter, Tangela Schuford-Wilson (Darryl); grandson, Christopher Schuford Wilson (Dominique); great grandson, Chayce Ryder Wilson, sister Arlenda Archer (Jerry); Virgin Mary Schuford Allan, and brother, William H. Lee (Linda).

Special thank you and prayers to his Caregivers Rose & Willie Jones, Sallie Schuford, Augustine Miles, and Latonia Blocker. He is also survived by his bonus great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Kayden and Ae’rea Edison; Godchildren, Deborah Bradford-Young, Debra Magee, Cheryl Lynn Morris, TeNikkie Henderson, Maxwell Henderson, Chandra Daniels, Anitra Mims, and other family and friends.

Services are entrusted to the Good Samaritan Funeral Home

Visitation and Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 18th, 2022 from 1:00pm – 8:00pm

Services will be held on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan Street, Shreveport, LA. Entombment will follow at Forest Park West.
