Where and how to find a good health insurance broker (NJ)
Hi all. I’m posting on behalf of my fiancé, as Ive taken on the task of finding a new health insurance provider/plan for him. I’ve really been struggling, as his health has drastically changed in the past 6 months and I want to be entirely certain that the plan he enrolls in will be a good match for his needs.
Someone recently recommended that I work with a health insurance broker (not agent), and any professional advisory at this point would be a lifesaver.
For those who have worked with brokers/might be one themselves:
What is the best way to go about finding one?
Are there brokers who have expertise in a particular medical specialty?
Cost-wise, is it worth it?
For context, my fiancé js a 31M and up until fairly recently was on a low-cost health plan, as he rarely needed to see a doctor and didn’t take any prescription medication.
Over the past 6 months or so he’s seen several specialists who determined he has two dysautonomic disorders (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and POTS). He will need to continuously see 3-4 specialists regularly, and is currently paying out-of-pocket for 5 prescription medications.
Specialist who are knowledgeable about the treatment of patients with EDS/POTS have been extremely hard to come by (as I’m sure anyone reading this who may also deal with either condition can relate to), so one of my top priorities is finding a health plan, which will allow him to continue to see his current doctors as they have been exceptional, with respect to continuity of care.
EDIT: 31M, cost of the health plan isn’t a concern, and anywhere in New Jersey.
Any input/advice you could offer would be SINCERELY appreciated! Thanks in advance all!
