Chewy expands CarePlus program through new Lemonade partnership

Chewy, an online-retailer of pet insurance products and a pet pharmacy, announced a partnership with Lemonade, which will expand on Chewy’s CarePlus program pet health and wellness insurance offerings. The CarePlus program will offer new plans through Lemonade’s pet insurance product, Lemonade Pet, and plans will be available to purchase through Chewy’s website starting in Spring 2023.

“Chewy launched CarePlus to help make pet healthcare more affordable and accessible. Finances are the main barrier many face when it comes to pet health, and we don’t want pet parents to choose between their pets’ health and their financial well-being. We are proud to partner with Lemonade to broaden our offering and meet more pet parents’ needs,” said Mita Malhotra, vice president and head of Chewy Health, in a press release statement. “Together, we share a deep commitment to innovation and delivering a consumer-centric, digital experience to make insurance simple for everyone.”

Chewy customers will be able to create customized insurance plans and receive access to Chewy’s pet health services, “Connect with a Vet” telehealth services, Chewy Pharmacy (Rx), and customer service. Users may also use Lemonade’s innovative mobile app, available on any mobile device, to manage policies and billing, submit claims, and receive nearly instantaneous payments.

As the collaboration is focused on improving the lives and health of pets, Lemonade and Chewy also announced that unused premiums will be donated to animal-centered charities.

Daniel Schreiber, co-CEO and co-founder of Lemonade, said in a press release statement: “Lemonade Pet couldn’t be easier, or faster. Pet parents get their claims paid in seconds, and can access preventative care, world-class customer service, and support animal nonprofits – all from the comfort of their phone. Today’s partnership with Chewy brings together two tech-powered, values-driven companies, joining forces to drive transparency and ease of use for pet parents across the U.S.”
