HSA+HRA High Deductible 0% Coinsurance Plan Advice/Experience?

HSA+HRA High Deductible 0% Coinsurance Plan Advice/Experience?

Will explain my companies’ policy below, but my main question is: what is your experience with HSA plans with no coinsurance, meaning you’re responsible for the full bill? What are your doctor bills like? Is it prohibitive?

My company offers either a typical co-pay plan with high deductible (10k family) and high co-pays $30/$50 for PCP/Specialists or an HSA+HRA HDHP with 14k/14k deductible/OOP max. The way it works is they provide $2250 funding into the HSA, then the next $5k I am fully responsible for, and afterward any funds above $7k I pay but submit for reimbursement from the company. I can put into the HSA account slightly below what I need to cover myself, so there’s tax savings there in the $5k I’m responsible for without any help through coinsurance, etc.

I know how a PPO co-pay plan works. Have had that the last 10+ years. Have never had an HSA. I’m primarily worried about having no discounts, help with expensive bills. Do HSA accounts still have discounts b/w medical provider and insurer? I looked at a previous bill for a pediatrician visit. Both my kids were coughing, went there to get their throats looked at and get some medicine prescribed. Without our PPO insurance, it would have totaled over $500 for the one visit. Is that what I would be paying with this HSA plan? Is the +$4k ER bill the actual amount I would have to cover or are there discounts?

Really trying to find first-hand experience with this.
