Guidance trying to terminate employer benefits

Hi – I hope I’m not screwed paying for this crap insurance until open enrollment…

I currently have a crap plan for medical, dental, vision through my employer.

I recently married 9/12. We applied to add me to my spouse’s coverage 10/5. When we did that application it showed each benefit (medical, dental, vision) to be effective 10/5.

With everything being 60 days I thought I was safe to wait for confirmation that I was officially covered by my spouse’s plan.

When I went to terminate my coverage through my employer today I selected the “gain of coverage through spouse” and put 10/5 for when the event took place.

It asked for proof and the provider said they needed a letter from HR detailing my new coverage and effective dates.

So the information is showing 9/12 as the effective date (when we married) rather than 10/5 when we applied and it originally showed as that date…

My current provider said they need proof within 30 days of the event….

Am I right that it should show 10/5 and might have a chance of getting the documentation updated and not missing the 30 day mark?

Why do so many things show 60 days to make changes but to terminate my insurance it’s 30 days?

Thanks for any help.
