I have insurance that fully covers yearly physicals, wellness checks, immunization, etc. Dr office wouldn’t refill my husband’s prescription because it had been a year since he was in. Every year he goes in and has a physical, gets his prescription refilled no problem. This year they charged him at the time of visit because our deductible hasn’t been met ( the receptionist words). My husband paid and left because he wasn’t going to argue. I called and told them we don’t have to meet our deductible on physicals. She said this wasn’t a physical it was a ‘medication check’. Everything was done in the visit except for a blood draw (he will go back next week for this). My question, how does the receptionist have authority to decide how and what my insurance is billed for? I told her to bill it as a physical exam not a medication check. She argued with me and is going to have the Office Manager call me Monday. It’s like they are holding a prescription hostage to get an office visit out of him. Any advice when I talk to the manger?
