Queensland broker targets $15,000 Movember donations
Hunter Broking MD Josh Ryan is “beyond blown away” with industry support for his Movember fundraising campaign to raise awareness for men’s health.
Donations to the campaign, in which participants can don a moustache for the month of November, fund medical research and trials, men’s health programs and innovative treatments.
Queensland-based Mr Ryan has joined “Mo-Mates” teammates who host several events during the year with entertainment and prizes. They have already raised $3350 of a targeted $15,000 goal for the Movember Foundation this year, and since 2018 raised more than $45,000.
“Community, friendship and support is so important. They raise awareness all year round,” Mr Ryan tells insuranceNEWS.com.au.
“This cause is very close to me as I know a huge difference can be made by spreading awareness. I like to listen and communicate, I feel it’s something that is so easy to do and can make a huge impact.
“It has been nice to receive so much support.”
In past years, Mr Ryan encouraged donations and awareness with challenges, revealing he previously “had my mo waxed off and also dyed it bleach-blonde”.
Now, Mo-Mates offers a raffle prize, and the campaign has already received over $7500 in raffle prize donations this year, ranging from gifts cards and services to six member tickets to the Queensland Reds and a new ipad.
Mr Ryan is passionate about general and mental health, and shares that he lost his brother-in-law Matt to suicide.
“He didn’t show any signs or how much he was truly struggling, he even came to all outings and holidays away,” Mr Ryan said. “I want to encourage others to become a Mo-Mate and help raise funds and awareness together. You don’t have to grow a mo, you just need to raise awareness.”
