Anthem canceled my health insurance midterm
I am self employed and purchased my health insurance directly from Anthem BCBS in Wisconsin. I have had the insurance for 9 years. Typically it renews Jan 1st. I saw my renewal letter late last year, the premium rose a little bit. No big deal.
Apparently, Anthem sent me a letter Feb 21st stating that they were canceling my health plan as of May 31st. I either didn’t get this letter or didn’t open it as I thought I was all set for the year for insurance. They canceled the entire plan for everyone in the entire state.
I found out today that my insurance was canceled when I received a call from my doctors office, just had a yearly check up and labs, all preventative care. I don’t check my checking account very well, I was still paying for the dental and life insurance, so I saw the anthem charge but didn’t notice that the charge went down by about $400.00, it was setup as an ACH.
Nonetheless, can a health insurance company cancel your policy midterm? I was under the assumption that it was a 1 year contract.
Is one letter enough notification?
This just seems odd.
It is strange because I have been receiving emails like this, which made me think I still had coverage. They sent me this email In June, July, August, and as recently as September 9th.
It all just seems kind of misleading. https://i.imgur.com/NkHqUKX.jpg
Is there anything I can do.
