EOB From an Old Insurance Account, United Healthcare Sending Me in Circles
I’m a 20-something dealing with insurance for the first time, so forgive me!
I received an EOB from Optum in the mail where the top right corner shows the claim being processed on my mother’s old insurance account (on which I used to be included as a dependant), rather than my current one. Both accounts are UnitedHealthcare, but my mother now uses different insurance so her old account shouldn’t even be active.
My specialist only has my current plan’s information as I’ve had my own insurance for nine months and just started with them two months ago, so I don’t know how they would’ve gotten the old account information. The specialist is absolutely no help in clarifying the issue and says to call United.
United can’t find my account when I call and says they can’t help, yet I can log in and view the account online. I see other claims being processed correctly, but these specific ones from the Specialist don’t even show up.
Do I keep calling United? Optum? My doctor? What happens if I just don’t do anything and ignore the $400+ EOB? I’m so lost.
Update: My current plan is through my employer — AllSavers, if that matters!
