A culture of collaboration – what it takes to stand out from the pack

RPS has also been named one of IBA’s Top Insurance Employers for 2022. Insurance employers earned the recognition by scoring highly on anonymous employee surveys that ask their employees to rate them in a number of metrics, including benefits, workplace culture, compensation and more.

“If you ask our employees, it’s our culture that makes RPS stand out,” said Tonya Lauderdale, vice president for human resources at RPS. “We foster a culture of collaboration and entrepreneurialism, which means when someone has a way of doing something better, we welcome it. When a producer needs assistance or guidance, we surround that individual with support and mentorship. We truly operate as ‘one RPS,’ and know that when our client succeeds, we all succeed.”

RPS offers employees training and professional development programs and recognition programs. Activities like monthly leadership calls provide transparency into results and strategic initiatives, while employee newsletters help to keep teams connected. The company also offers an online resource center for mental health, family care, and physical and nutritional health.

The RPS culture also focuses on volunteerism and community involvement. The company holds a yearly fundraiser in which regions compete against each other, as well as many local community volunteer events. RPS also identifies a local charity in the city where it hosts its annual sales meeting. In 2022, the charity was The Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio. Collectively, RPS teams raised more than $67,000 for the charity, funding more than 670 night stays for families to be near their children undergoing medical care.

Lauderdale said that RPS continues to expand its team.

“We continue to refine our early talent recruitment and development programs,” she said. “This summer, we hosted more than 70 interns across our RPS offices. This pipeline for talent is strong and meaningful. In addition, we plan to expand our career advancement programs into the functional areas that keep our organization running.”
