Employer insurance and tricare reserve?

Hi all, so to preface, im a young adult and essentially my first full time job with benefits. Super excited because it is a government job and the benefits are excellent. However, I am also in the national guard and qualify for Tricare reserve select.

I’ve never had to pick a healthcare plan so this is all completely foreign to me. I have an option they my employer between a QDHP or a PPO plan. The PPO plan seems to be better because although it is $14 a month, it gives me much better copays without having to meet a $2800+ deductible like in the QDHP.

Everyone in the military has recommended that I get Tricare. But what exactly makes that so special? I honestly don’t know if it’s any better than what I can get now. I did a little bit of research on it and some people were recommending it as a supplemental type thing on top of my employer insurance. If that’s the case, is it best to opt for the QDHP plan that is $0 a month in place of the $14 PPO plan (since I’d be paying for Tricare)

Idk, I’m sorry if this is a stupid question. Trying to wrap my head around everything “adult” and unfortunately have not found anyone to really help me with this stuff
