Janice Laws Robinson, an independent insurance agent who sells life insurance and annuities, is now set to be the Democratic candidate for insurance commissioner in Georgia.

Robinson won a runoff election Tuesday against Raphael Baker. She received 64% of the 248,331 votes cast, according to data from state election officials.

Robinson was also Georgia’s Democratic nominee for commissioner in 2018.

Robinson’s Background

Robinson started out in insurance as a senior sales account representative with Liberty Mutual in 2003.

She later sold life insurance, along with auto insurance and homeowners insurance, for MetLife, State Farm and Nationwide.

She launched her own agency, J. Laws & Associates, in the Atlanta area in 2014.

The agency sells life insurance and annuities as well as health insurance, property and casualty products, and voluntary benefits.
