Hiscox ILS plans growth, raised new assets for 2022: Prabis interview

Hiscox ILS, the insurance-linked securities (ILS) and collateralised reinsurance underwriting unit of specialist underwriter Hiscox Group, had a successful renewals and now targets growth in 2022, with some additional assets raised for 1/1, Vincent Prabis explained in a recent video interview.

Prabis discussed the recent January renewals, from the perspective of the Hiscox ILS unit deployment of capital and revealed that the company received additional support from investors.

“We’re pleased to say that it was a successful period for Hiscox ILS,” Prabis explained, “In general we renew about 50% of our gross written premium at 1/1.

“Because we had increased AuM, due to continuing support from our existing investors, we were able to take advantage of what we saw out there.”

Prabis highlighted the improvement in reinsurance market conditions, that he feels make growth possible in 2022.

“It’s a bit too early to share specific numbers, but we observed significant hardening in many areas of our portfolio. So the environment is very favourable at the moment and we do plan to see growth in the coming year.

“Our outlook on ILS as an asset class remains positive, due to the ongoing repricing and the fact that, in our view it continues to deliver an attractive and uncorrelated risk-adjusted return,” Prabis said.
