Just switched jobs and have to pick new insurance. Can anyone help me pick a plan?
So typically my previous jobs would offer a “good, better, best” option and I’d usually take the one in the middle.
Last year I had a pretty serious medical issue, and now my wife is correctly pregnant and will give birth this year. She also does not have insurance at her job so my plan will need to cover her and the baby as well.
Known expenses this year -Childbirth (no idea the cost but I’m in the -United States so probably expensive) -Childbirth follow up -MRI later in the year (most likely) usually about $1500 out of pocket.
I’m trying to decide between the top 2 plans, and if it is worth paying for the top plan available which will start July 1st.
-Plan 1 (Bi weekly) $282.90 (employee+spouse) $396.80 (family)
In network deductible (individual/family) $750/$1500
Coinsurance (plan/member) 90%/10%
ER Copay $150
Hospital in our outpatient Deductible then 10%
Payment limit (individual/family) $4000/$8000
-Plan 2 (bi weekly) $170.90 employee + spouse $233.70 family
In network deductible (individual/family) $1500/3000
Coinsurance (plan/member) 80%/20%
ER Copay $175
Hospital in our outpatient Deductible then 20%
Payment limit (individual/family) $4500/9000
I guess I’m not totally sure how to find out if the premium, or savings on the deductible out of pocket would put me ahead.
I appreciate any help, and can provide more info if needed. The prices I listed are after an $83.34 credit for not smoking.
