What To Do If You Cannot Get Your Property Insurance Adjuster to Return Calls
The National Association of Public Insurance Adjusters (NAPIA) is hosting its annual meeting in Galveston, Texas. The claims handling tips make the event an excellent learning experience.
One tip came from former NAPIA President Ron Papa from National Fire Adjusters (NFA). The topic was what one should do if the insurance company adjuster does not return calls or respond to claims.
Insurance company adjusters have obligations to promptly respond to communications. Failure to do so could result in fines to the insurance carrier following a market conduct study. So, Papa correctly noted that when an insurance adjuster fails to respond, it could be an indication of something serious.
After not receiving a response to numerous calls and letters, Ron Papa sent flowers to the office of the adjuster. He offered condolences to the staff and colleagues of the adjuster following his demise.
What happened? The insurance adjuster finally called back. Other adjusters in that office started calling back quickly as well. Indeed, adjusters in other offices started calling Ron Papa back and spoke about not wanting to have flowers sent to their colleagues and supervisors.
Interpersonal skillsets and positive communications can be learned. NAPIA has some of the best property claims adjusters in the country to learn from.
