A turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-liter five-cylinder transverse-mounted engine lurks under the RS3’s hood, and its output of 401 horsepower is a full 95 horsepower more than what an S3 can manage.
The RS3’s lowered suspension squats 0.4 inch lower than the Audi S3 and a full inch lower than an Audi A3.
The front track of the RS3 is fully two inches broader than the Audi S3, and its alignment is set with one extra degree of negative camber.
Interestingly, the RS3’s 265/30R-19 front tires are almost an inch wider than the 245/35R-19 rubber mounted in back.
The active rear differential is fitted with multiplate clutch packs feeding each axle-shaft and can therefore direct as much as 100 percent of the rear power flow to one tire.
Carbon-ceramic front brakes are part of the Dynamic Plus package that also increases the top speed to 180 mph.
Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R motorsport tires are an available option, but you must sign a disclaimer to take delivery of them.
The Matrix LED headlights sit just above 15-segment daytime running lights that cycle through “R,” “S,” “3” startup animation before settling into a checkered-flag pattern while you’re on the move.
We’re big fans of the RS3’s grippy steering wheel.
The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic doesn’t come with much in the way of a shift lever, but Manual mode is nevertheless easy to control via wheel-mounted shift paddles.
