ICA to hold townhalls for flood-impacted policyholders in Qld

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) will be hosting a number of townhalls for Queensland (Qld) insurance customers impacted by the major flood events in February and March.

Throughout June, the in-person forums will provide an overview of the floods, claims process, complaints avenues and other support available before moving into break-out sessions. There, community members can speak with insurance company representatives present at each forum.

Last March, the ICA released a flood update that shows insurers have received almost 31,000 claims from the flood emergency in Queensland and New South Wales. The ICA expects this number to continue rising as more people return to their properties.

“The Insurance Council and insurers are eager to hit the road in Queensland and meet with policyholders impacted by the flooding earlier this year,” Andrew Hall, chief executive officer of the ICA, said in a statement. “The extreme weather throughout the south-east of the state has been relentless and we know that many are feeling overwhelmed, especially given other factors such as a delay in building supplies and contractors.”

The Queensland townhalls will be held from 5:30pm for a 6pm start at the following locations:

Gympie: Monday, June 13 at The Pavilion Conference & Reception Centre
Maryborough: Tuesday, June 14 at Maryborough Services & Citizens Memorial Club
Brisbane North: Wednesday, June 15 at Bracken Ridge Tavern
Brisbane South: Thursday, June 16 at Forest Lake Tavern
Ipswich: Monday, June 20 at North Ipswich Reserve Corporate Centre
Gatton: Tuesday, June 21 at Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre
Beenleigh: Wednesday, June 22 at Beenleigh Events Centre
Chinderah: Thursday, June 23 at Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club
Caboolture: Monday, June 27 at Sports Central
